This morning, a city crew arrived at the camp at Laurelhurst Park that mutual aid groups have been supporting to begin a sweep. Protest-related groups have been there daily to support the houseless community since the original date was announced earlier this month.

Contractors with Rapid Response are urging folks to move their belongings before 10, which is when police are expected to show up.

I am live tweeting from #Laurelhurst Park where the city of Portland is sweeping the encampment. I talked with Pony, who gestures toward his tent. “This was the first time I had a structure in eight years.” pic.twitter.com/SaQnJDnPP1

Walking up to the stretches of tents and tarps on this bright winter day during these difficult days of the pandemic, I’m struck by the large houses — mansions even — looking out over the stretch of tents. This is the landscape of our city and its extreme disparities.

“An insufficient number of shelter beds as the primary option is not a policy … that is merely rhetoric,” John Mayer of Beacon PDX says. Some people are moving to Mt Scott shelter. He adds that this is happening when the “governor is asking those of us with homes to stay put.” pic.twitter.com/M1QEBqnNaT

Downtown, a Back the Blue group has returned to the Justice Center. Last Thursday, BLM protesters confronted them at this location.

Militia bois protecting the justice center. Three total arrests on the antifascist side, including a minor. Unsure what the reasons are for the adults. Police said the minor had a warrant but was detained for other reasons. pic.twitter.com/2nancgeJbI
