Scheduled Events
- Arbor Lodge Direct Action March – 8 PM
Timeline
I’m at Arbor Lodge Park in North Portland covering tonight’s Direct Action March calling for police and prison abolition.

About ~30 people are gathered in the park, along with a medic tent (providing free medical supplies and gear), a mutual aid van and ACLU legal observers. pic.twitter.com/5PZSIW5b3i
The crowd at Arbor Lodge (which has grown to ~70 people) just circled up to take a vote on whether or not to leave the park tonight. Some in the crowd are warily watching a pair of unmasked white men who have been strolling slowly through the crowd, eyeing protesters.

The crowd has taken a left and is now marching north on North Denver Avenue toward the Portland Police Association building on North Lombard Street, chanting:

“No justice, no peace! Fuck these racist ass police!”
There’s a small group of 70 or so protesters demonstrating in North Portland, in front of the the PPA building. As they arrive the Portland Police’s LRAD sound canon tells them N Lombard is open to traffic, asks them to be “courteous to your neighbors.” pic.twitter.com/osCs8PrmUo

The names of Patrick Kimmons and Quanice Hayes (both who were fatally shot by Portland police) have been spray painted on the walls of the PPA building. pic.twitter.com/xw6tmyqvKL

Portland police repeated their announcement over a loudspeaker, but a protester drowned out the sound out with a loud air horn.

The crowd is mostly standing in small groups across the street from PPA, talking and listening to music playing over a sound system.
The crowd gathered by 7-Eleven for an announcement: if anyone sees police approaching from behind, they’re asked to yell the word “doughnut” to alert protesters to their presence.

“This is going to be your cue to look behind you. It doesn’t matter where you’re at.”
Since I last tweeted the protesters have been standing in the street, eating donuts and listening to Rage Against the Machine. For a half an hour.

The pro-police billboard has finished melting away, its remains dripping into a puddle on the cement below. pic.twitter.com/MdGHWx9EFM

Looks like the protest is winding down . There are maybe 30 people listening to jams in the street.

When the crowd had shrunk to ~20 people, a person with a megaphone asked if people were ready to conclude for the night. The group agreed and began walking back toward Arbor Lodge Park.
